Jessica shares this about the story behind the song:
"I walked into the room at the care center where Grandpa had been housed since he'd broken his hip. He was very obviously at the end of his life, and his mouth was wide open in a constant moan, sometimes audible, sometimes silent. I was struck by the almost INSTANT impression I had- "how appropriate, he's singing."
My Grandpa had been a lover of music his entire life; he played piano, he sang in groups. It is obviously one of the legacies he passed into my soul. And while everyone hovered around him that night trying to help him be comfortable and calm, I continued to hear a voice inside saying, "He's singing! Hear him sing!"
I was unsurprised when my Grandmother asked me to sing at his funeral, and I responded with, "Would you like me to write him a song?" With their approval, I asked my father and aunts to give me their thoughts about Grandpa, and it took me almost no time at all to know what the song should say.
I am beyond honored that I could gift him this tribute with the promise that I heard his song, and I will do my best to keep singing it until we meet again."
